ABOUT THE GREAT WESTERN REROUTE
The Great Western Reroute is an annual gravel cycling event held in the mountains of East County San Diego, starting and finishing in Alpine, CA. Now in its ninth year, the GWR offers three course options: a 75-mile Long Course with 8,000 feet of climbing, a 50-mile Short Course, and a new 100-mile Lion's Share category for those looking for the ultimate challenge. The event is unmarked and GPS-navigated, threading through Cleveland National Forest, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, and Cuyamaca Rancho State Park across a mix of gravel, singletrack, and pavement.
Two aid stations support riders on course, and the day finishes back at Mike Hess Brewing for a post-ride party and prizes. The day also features the KOM Challenge with timed gravel segments and prizes on the line, and the Reroute Hunt, where hidden medallions along the course can be redeemed for prizes including a set of ENVE gravel wheels. The event is capped at 120 riders and runs on Saturday, May 16, 2026. If you're a rider under 23 looking for a proper backcountry adventure in Southern California, this one's for you.

WHO SHOULD APPLY
We're looking for a passionate young rider (born in 2023 or later) who has experience on challenging gravel terrain and can handle a demanding backcountry route. You'll need appropriate equipment for a full day in the mountains and the availability to ride on May 16, 2026.
