Shakeout by the Shore returns as your unofficial warmup before BWR California. This year we're shifting to Friday morning to get closer to the weekend action and welcome a few more friends to the fun. The ride starts and ends at The Confessional by The Lost Abbey, a longtime partner of both BWR and Gravelstoke.
Join us Friday, May 1, 2026 at 10AM, departing from Seaside Market at 2007 San Elijo Ave, Cardiff, CA 92007. WARNING: Do not park in the Seaside Market lot or your vehicle will be towed. Use street parking in Cardiff.
Originally the Shakeout in the Hills when BWR called San Marcos home, the tradition continues for its 6th year as we followed the event coastside and rebranded accordingly. Same spirit, new dirt. Always a fresh route, always a great time.
This is your chance to spin out travel legs, get familiar with the terrain, and connect with the community before race weekend. We'll loop through secret dirt sections in Cardiff, Solana Beach, and Del Mar before cruising back up Coast Highway to The Confessional. Grab lunch at East Coast Pizza or Sambazan afterward, then join us for a drink before packet pickup on Saturday.
Expect good vibes and a relaxed pace. This is a shakeout ride, not a throw down. Show up, loosen up, and dial in before the real chaos begins.

EQUIPMENT
Bring your drop bar bike with tires 40mm and up for maximum fun. Please ride completely self-sufficient with a hand pump, CO2 cartridges, extra tubes, and other appropriate trailside repair gear. Tubeless setup is strongly advised.
