Shakeout by the Shore 2025
Last night, as the gravel faithful descended on North County San Diego for the 14th annual BWR California, the tribe kicked things off with the 5th annual shakeout ride, now gloriously reborn as Shakeout by the Shore. This coastal twilight communion brought together the usual suspects—visiting waffle-chasers and local dirt devils—for one last spin before the storm.
The all-new 15-mile tease showed off North County’s best-kept secrets: the undulating rollers of San Dieguito County Park, the sandy ribbons of the Coast to Crest Trail, and the swoopy bliss of the North Coast Bike Trail. No timing chips, no KOMs—just a golden-hour cruise through the kind of terrain that makes your legs lie to you about Sunday.
As the sun tucked itself behind the Pacific, the ride rolled back to The Lost Abbey Confessional in Cardiff, where East Coast Pizza served up hot slices of salvation, washed down with cold pours of Lost Abbey’s divine brews. First-timers nervously whispered about tire pressure, veterans dished out course gossip like monks with secrets, and everyone raised a glass to the madness ahead.
Scroll down for Tony Forte’s photo gallery that somehow captured the magic and the mischief. And if you missed it—well, better start carb-loading for next year!
