2024 Shakeout in the Hills
- San Elijo Hills Fountain 1256 San Elijo Road North San Marcos, CA, 92078 United States (map)
Just ahead of the 12th annual BWR CA, we invite friends and visiting guests to join us for the Shakeout in the Hills. With many riders arriving early, and local friends eager to connect, we’ve created a short shake-out gravel ride just ahead of the weekend festivities. The 10-mile route starts in San Elijo Hills, a local trail hub in San Marcos, CA. The short course includes some of our favorite local gravel and singletrack that you won't see on Sunday, along with at least one section that you’ll see on Sunday.
This ride rolls out from the San Elijo Hills fountain at 6pm. This will be an easy-paced ride for all abilities, but please download the route if you can. There will be 2-3 regroups to keep everyone together. Also, please bring a tail-light and headlight as visibility will be lower towards the end of the ride with the sunset scheduled for around 7:30PM. Opportunity to connect post-ride at the Lost Abbey Sanctuary. Free parking is available on the local streets or in the Albertsons parking lot.
Schedule
Arrive at the San Elijo Hills Fountain 5:45 PM
Welcome and ride start 6 PM
Ride finish 7:30 - 8 PM
Post-ride gathering and raffle at The Sanctuary 8 - 9 PM
2024 Route
The 2024 shakeout route will take us down Questhaven, then to Keithley Preserve for a new singletrack section, then up Elfin Forest Road to the old yellow truck site and back to SEH via fire roads.
EQUIPMENT
The new shakeout course for ‘24 includes gravel, pavement, and some technical singletrack to keep things spicy. Bring your gravel bike or hardtail with tires 40mm and up for maximum fun. Please ride completely self-sufficient with a hand pump, CO2 cartridges, extra tubes, and other appropriate trailside repair gear. Tubeless setup is strongly advised.
