Grinduro Exits Quincy While Expanding to Six Cities Worldwide

Grinduro, brought to life by founding sponsor Giro Sport Design, has wrapped up another successful season with the support of global partners Fabric, Maxxis, and Rapha. For 2020, Grinduro’s growth will continue, with six events planned between June and December.

Most noteworthy, four of Grinduro’s six events will be at new venues in 2020, including the flagship California event, which will move from Quincy to Mt. Shasta. As for Quincy, a gravel event will remain in the city that hosted Grinduro for the previous five years, under the name Gravelation. The new gravel event was recently announced by the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship, and will become part of the Mountains to Meadows Outdoor Festival scheduled for September 24-27, 2020.

Gravelation replaces Grinduro in Quincy and will feature the redesigned and challenging 2019 Grinduro course with four timed stages known as Hough and Puff, Pine Creek Plunge, Rouler's Revenge and Smokechaser. Plus, a Friday night cyclocross race. live music, weekend camp out and other outdoor adventures all weekend long.

I love seeing the same faces year-after-year on the course, but the real magic is in bringing Grinduro to new audiences.

Each Grinduro event will continue to highlight Grinduro’s magic formula – a combination of gravel road race and mountain bike-style enduro over the course of a single long loop of pavement, gravel, and dirt, with finishing times based on four short timed segments (each roughly 7 - 12 minutes). As a testament to both the diverse riding skills required and the level of competition, past editions have been won by former professional downhill racers, pro road racers and current cyclocross pros.

Over the past five years, Grinduro has raised nearly USD $500,000 for organizations ranging from Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship to the Arran Trust. Grinduro’s Japanese promoters also supplied commercial and logistical support in the post-typhoon clean up within the Grinduro Japan host city, Liyama, Nagano Prefecture.
