Chumba Bikes Introduces Yaupon Gravel Bike

Austin-based Chumba Bikes today announces the all-new Yaupon, a so-called ATB or All Terrain Bicycle that looks to be capable for everything from sweet singletrack, multi-day bikepacking or a massive gravel loop. The Yaupon, pronounced (yo-pawn), offers the possibility of introducing a 120mm tire clearances up to 29 x 2.6” in its mid and rear dropout positions. According to Chumba they have created “A true dirt drop MTB” with a slacker head tube angle and longer reach that were designed for use with a shorter stem & wider bars.

  • Fork Travel: Optimized for 120mm travel w/ 44mm offset and rigid forks 483mm-490mm axle to crown (A2C)

    • Best suspensions forks: Fox Stepcast 34 120 or Standard 34 120, Rockshox SID 120 or Pike 120

    • Best rigid fork: Enve MTN Boost Carbon

  • Suggested Stem Lengths: 35 - 80mm

  • Headset S.H.I.S.: ZS44 Upper/ EC44 Lower for 1.5” Tapered or 1 1/8” Straight Forks

  • Hub Spacing: 148x12 Boost

  • Drivetrain / PMW Sliding Dropout Options: Geared, Single Speed or Rohloff

  • Rear Axle: 148x12x1.5 thread pitch (170mm total length) (comes with frame)

  • Max Tire Clearances:

    • 29 x 2.4” (in all dropout positions M, L, XL, mid-rearward on size small)

    • 29 x 2.6” (mid dropout and rearward)

    • 27plus x 2.8"

  • Bottom Bracket: 73 English Threaded BSA

  • Chainring/Chain-line: 1x 38T oval on Boost chain-line (51/52mm)

  • Seat Post: Post 31.6mm or for 27.2mm use a Cane Creek Alloy Shim

  • Seat Post Clamp: 35mm (comes w/ frame)

  • Dropper Port: Stainless internal dropper port on non-driveside w/ rubber housing guide

  • Cable Routing: Standard cable routing goes under the down tube via PMW bolt on cable guides and then onto the chain-stays

  • H20 Capacity: 3 bottles on all sizes.

  • Cargo Mounts: Includes Top Tube mounts and under down tube cargo mounts for 3 bolt style cages

  • Rack mounts: Optional customization to mounts or we offer Old Man Mountain racks, who makes a USA made thru-axle mounted rack that can hold up to 70lbs, it is more secure for the rack and goods and it better protects the frame then a traditionally mounted rack. We can provide these with the bike if interested.

The Chumba Yaupon is made in USA and built in house in Austin, TX. Chumba offers a wide range of frame customizations and color options that can be viewed on their website. The Yaupon Steel 29er / 27plus is available as a frame only, frame set, in complete build kits, and partial builds. Framesets start at $1895 USD.
