5 Adventure Cycling Podcasts For Your Quarantine Listening Pleasure

We’re big fans of gravel and adventure cycling podcasts here and gathered up a few that have recently been released in this new world of social distancing and home isolation. We hope you are all safe and doing well wherever you may be. Here in California the restrictions have only increased. Originally on March 19, the governor gave a shelter in place order, requesting that all citizens stay at home with the exception of any essential activities. While the order was mostly followed, here in North County San Diego people continue to go outside and enjoy the local parks, trails and beaches. Unfortunately social distancing can be difficult on our narrow trails, sidewalks and beach breaks, forcing the county to and local governments to further restrict access by temporarily closing these public areas starting March 23 to help slow the spread of the virus that causes the COVID-19 disease. If you do go outside please be responsible and follow good pandemic practices. Now for your quarantine listening pleasure, here are 5 podcasts to check out.

1. Overland Archive Podcast

Guest Jeff Kerkove joins us to talk about his recent victory at the Stagecoach 400 in Southern California as well as some of his racing history including the Silk Road Mountain Race, Colorado Trail Race and even a bit of winter/fat bike racing at Fat Pursuit. We covered Jeff’s Stagecoach 400 performance here and bike for the race here.

2. The Adventure Stache

Following Payson’s win at the historically muddy “The Mid South” gravel race, many asked for a Q&A episode giving a look inside the race. In this episode, Payson responds to the questions you've been submitting over the past few days about the race, including why he chose to use slick tires for one of the muddiest races on record, how he kept his head in the game and managed to catch the lead group after early setbacks, his power, heart rate, calorie, and other race data, and his thoughts about the scarcity of live coverage of the women's race in relation to the men's. He also addresses the elephant in the room that many of you brought up in your questions: how he felt about competing in the race during the escalation of COVID-19, and whether or not he would have done things differently in hindsight.

3. The Gravel Ride Podcast

Evil Bikes, best known as an MTB company, bursts onto the gravel scene at the end of 2019 with the Chamois Hager model. With an aggressive geometry and dropper post, the bike immediately turned heads. Craig speaks with Evil Bikes COO, Jason Moeschler about the design philosophy and intention.

4. Bikes or Death Podcast

In this episode Patrick Farnsworth meets up with Jenny Schmidt at Rocky Hill Ranch to ride bikes and record a podcast. She had just completed a solo bikepacking trip along the US/Mexico border from California to Texas. For her this trip was about grappling with her own mental health and an opportunity to learn first hand about the issues surrounding the border and the wall.

5. King of the Ride

Veteran pro, Laurens Ted Dam raced professionally from 2003 through 2019 for the likes of Rabobank, Lotto Jumbo, Sunweb, and CCC. But unlike many of his European professional cyclist counterparts, he's so full of energy, he wears his two young boys out! Now retired from the World Tour, Laurens and Ted catch up on all things that are part of the LTD lifestyle, which is "Live Slow Ride Fast". This budding entrepreneur has a coffee line, clothing line, host two gravel events, has a podcast, video series, and is the Dutch editor of Bicycling Magazine. Over a couple of tasty beers part way through the Coast Ride in January, Laurens and Ted chat shop, the state of pro cycling, gravel racing, van life, and everything in between.
