Velocio Gravel Apparel Picks Winter 21/22

With early winter set in and the start of the new season coming on December 21, we checked in with Velocio to see what new pieces they have in store for riders looking to keep warm and comfortable while looking their best. As each new season approaches, we always enjoy seeing what Velocio has been working on, as each of their pieces always look great and work well for the cycling disciplines we enjoy. Here are a few items we have our eye on for the cold months ahead.

Concept Merino Long Sleeve

The original Concept Merino from Velocio was a short sleeve version, and that jersey was spot on. For 2022 Velocio revealed a new Long Sleeve version in both men’s and women’s cuts that takes the same great patterns and materials to create what looks to be an extremely versatile long sleeve jersey. Based on our experience with the short sleeve version, this jersey should work great for cooler fall days, or layered on colder days in the winter. Made in Italy with 75% Merino Wool / 18% Polyamide / 7% Elastane.

Thermal Long Sleeve

A new piece from Velocio this winter is the Thermal Long Sleeve, which promises to be thicker and warmer than their Signature or SE Jersey options. The Velocio Thermal Long Sleeve is available in 5 great looking colors, but we are especially fond of this Light Olive colorway that popped up on a few new Veloio items in late 2021. Some nice reflective detailing above the back pockets adds visibility to the list of benefits. This new ultra-soft, yet stretchy long sleeve should be a great addition to any cyclist’s winter wardrobe.

Signature Softshell Vest

Also new for the 21/22 winter season is the Velocio Signature Softshell Vest. Although this is probably not a vest that will easily pack down, we love taking vests on our adventures for core warmth while also offering maximum arm and shoulder flexibility over tricky terrain. Velocio partnered with eVent to develop the proprietary three-layer softshell used in this vest and their Softshell Jacket. The unique softshell incorporates a Direct Vent stretch membrane with Primaloft performance backer and DWR-treated face for something you won’t find anywhere else. Velocio says that this vest is designed for temperatures from freezing to 50F, while also being able to handle the occasional downpour. Combine this vest with one of the long sleeves mentioned above and you should be set for the coldest gravel rides ahead. Shown here in the Night colorway, it’s also available in Yukon (yellow), Fire Red, and Light Olive.

Alpha Merino Air Jacket

As for full cycling jackets, we couldn’t go without mentioning the new Velocio Alpha Merino Air Jacket, available in both men’s and women’s cuts. Here Velocio made something pretty special by combining Polartec’s Alpha insulation with merino wool. The Alpha Wool is used as interior insulation on the sleeve, front, and collar, while Pertex Quantum Air provides an ultralight wind and water-resistant barrier to help trap heat while maintaining breathability. The back panel of the jacket is made from fleece-backed Italian milled recycled polyester to aid in breathability and mobility. Velocio says that this is their most technical riding jacket ever and it looks amazing. Shown below is the women’s version in Deep Sea, while a Fire Red colorway is also available.
