The BWR Shakeout Ride is Back for 2022

Just ahead of the 2022 BWR, we are happy to bring back the 2nd annual SHAKEOUT IN THE HILLS on Thursday, April 28, 2022. We had a blast in 2021 when past BWR winners Neil Shirley and Brian McCulloch joined us to kick off the new tradition on our backyard trails of San Elijo Hills not far from the official Belgian Waffle Ride venue. Katerina Nash also joined us, who ended up winning the BWR San Diego women’s Waffle race later that weekend. For 2022 expect much of the same good times, chill vibes, and friendly faces as we return to San Marcos for an evening of gravel community.

We invite local friends, pro riders, industry brands and BWR participants from around the country to join us at 6PM on Thursday, April 28 for the 2022 SHAKEOUT IN THE HILLS. A 13-mile mixed terrain gravel route will start from the San Elijo Hills village center and take riders on a t-shirt-paced ride on some of our favorite local terrain. Riders are encouraged to arrive at the San Elijo Hills Fountain by 5:45PM on Thursday 4/28. We will be regrouping in a few places as we attempt to keep everyone together, but please do download the route if you can. Also, please bring a tail-light and headlight as visibility will be lower towards the end of the ride with the sunset scheduled for around 7:30PM. Expect some fun singletrack, fast gravel and pavement. After the ride we'll gather at The Sanctuary, Lost Abbey's tasting room just adjacent to the Fountain square. We expect that a food truck will also be on-site for post-ride eats. Free parking is available on the local streets or in the Albertsons parking lot.

SCHEDULE

  • Arrive at the San Elijo Hills Fountain 5:45 PM

  • Welcome and ride start 6 PM

  • Ride finish 7:30 - 8 PM

  • Post-ride gathering at The Sanctuary 8 - 9 PM
