PNW Components Satellite Saddle Bag Review

With so many saddle bags to choose from it can be difficult for a new one to stand out. Fortunately for PNW Components, they managed to do just that with some simple design features and a bag that does exactly what you need, and nothing you don’t. Named the Satellite, the new saddle bag from PNW Components is made with a durable and water resistant DWR coated tri-layer sailcloth fabric. The bag is lightweight at just 55 grams, runs a hook-and-loop strap for universal saddle compatibility, and comes with bungee hardware for attachment to the seat post. What I appreciate most about the bag is its shape, as it was clearly designed to fit the space a saddle bag is made for. Rather than a the 90° lines we are used to seeing on so many bags, PNW Components started with the space underneath the saddle that it aims to fill. The result looks great without compromising function.

In testing, I found that the bungee attachment system that was designed to attach to the seat post not possible with my Redshift Pro Seatpost, but fortunately was also completely unnecessary as the bag was adequately secure with the provided hook-and-loop strap. The bag’s construction feels high quality and durable, although I personally prefer using a 15” Voile strap for securing saddle bags. Fortunately though, the Satellite Saddle Bag is backed by the brand’s Lifetime Warranty for the lifetime of the product. The triangle branding on the bag’s exterior also serves as a reflective patch, and another triangle is found on the zipper pull.

Inside the bag was more room than I initially expected, fitting everything shown in the image below including Wolf Tooth Pack Pliers, two 16g CO2 cartridges, CO2 chuck, spare valve, Snek Lifeboat tire lever, Tubolito spare tube, Tubolito tube repair kit, Dynaplug spare plugs, multi-tool, rag, and 4oz Squirt. Although not listed, the Satellite has around 0.3 L of storage, plenty of room for all the essentials you might need on a weekend adventure ride. The Satellite comes in either Khaki or Black, and costs $39.
